Claves is a set of courses designed to instill within students the “keys” essential for opening the doors to reflection and innovation. These keys will help students explore diverse fields of knowledge, sharpen their analytical ability, make connections between local and global events, and deepen how they understand their relationships with others. Each course is centered on fundamental yet relevant core questions that will provide students with opportunities to apply their knowledge creatively and generate new ideas. Through class dialogue, critical examinations of various texts and case studies, and the completion of diverse assignments, students will seek their own answers to these questions.
Cultural Interpretation and Imagination
This module enables students to understand and interpret cultural texts—such as literature and art—and analyze language within social and cultural contexts. Students take part in assignments that require creative approaches to interpretation with the end of developing their analytical abilities as well as their imagination. They learn how to structure and revise their thoughts through dialogue with various texts, learning to broaden their perspectives and explore new ways of thinking in the process. Through analyzing cultural content from a diversity of perspectives, students cultivate the ability to understand people and the world that shaped this content with a deeper respect for diversity.
Historical Inquiry and Philosophical Thinking
This module helps students understand world events and reflect on the philosophical relationship between people and society. Students learn to interpret and evaluate change over time based on narratives from the past, ultimately deepening their understanding of the present. By critically examining major theories regarding human cognition, morality, and existence, students develop the ability to reflect and form their own sense of self.
Understanding Humans and Society
Courses in this module explore how personal and social factors shape the human experience. Students examine insights into humanity from diverse angles – such as psychology, cognition, and language – and analyze the relationship between individuals and various kinds of social structures. Learning how to form their own perspectives and sharpen their decision-making abilities on social matters, students develop a sense of social responsibility to their communities.
Scientific Reasoning and Applications
Courses in this module focus on helping students better understand and apply scientific approaches to real-world phenomena while building the literacy and communication skills needed to analyze data. Students also reflect on the roles of science and technology as well as their ethical, social, and environmental impact. Through exercises in logical thinking, analytical methods, and quantitative reasoning, they observe and interpret and address phenomena in the world that they live in.
